Chapter 6. A Foggy Memory

The week started out so promising.

I convinced Zell to buy a guitar to supplement his singing skills! He loves playing it like, all the time.

And when I say all the time, I mean like, all the time.

Meanwhile, I practiced my woodworking and Zell took care of his weird fruit tree.

One day, he decided to get a bartending table, claiming that he found an old book with secret drink recipes that he wanted to try out.

He got really excited about showing off his skills to me. “I’m a natural, Benji!” he exclaimed. “I’m practically a professional bartender already. Watch this-” He cocked an eyebrow at me. “Could I offer you a nightcap, sir?”

I smiled and played along. “Ok, barkeep. Make me your finest drink.”

“All right, one Zell specialty comin’ right- oops!” He dropped a bottle.

“I, er, hold on- I can, if I just- whoops-” He had forgotten to put the lid on the tumbler as he started shaking it.

“-one moment, I- ah, oh dear-” The drink splattered everywhere, raining down on him.

I tittered. “Well, barkeep, that seems like a fine drink indeed, but I prefer it inside a glass-“

“…go Woohoo yourself, Benji.”

“-what a rude barkeep, no tip for you-“

We chuckled.

I woke up early the next morning, just before dawn, but Zell wasn’t there.

“Zell?” I shouted, but there was no answer. The sun was almost up- and I knew how much my roommate hated sunlight. I had to make sure he got home ok.

I found him out at a bar in the city, surrounded by that mysterious red mist again.

“Zell!” I shouted. “It’s time to go, the sun’s almost up-” But when I got closer, the mist hit me, and I started to feel funny.

“Hey… Zell… I have to tell you… something… I forget… what…” Words became hard to form, and my vision went hazy. Everything was red and garbled, and then suddenly I couldn’t remember anything.

I have no memory of what happened next.

“Zell?”

“Zell? What’s going on? I’m scared-“

Next thing I remember, Zell was walking away, and the red haze around me dissipated. My mind was clearing up again.

“Wait, Zell! Where are you going? What just happened?” I chased after him.

“Zell, talk to me! What’s going on?”

But he wouldn’t come out of his room.

  1. Oh no! I don’t think it was Zell’s intention to make Benji flirty and kiss him, but I do kind of want these two to get together, just with Benji being fully aware. I hope they’re both okay. I wonder what Zell was doing, though. Trying to pick up dates?

I love how the house appears from the outside by the way. It’s unique and creepy, without being too creepy. The roof and window placement are great. Benji’s woodcarving is a nice touch, too.

  2. That cut from the guitar to the bedtime guitar? So good. My favorite thing about Sims, number-one favorite, is their abhorrent lack of situational awareness. They are constantly in “Sir, this is a Wendys” mode.

Uh-oh, I do want to hear Zell’s explanation for the dubious consent. And I think we’re meant to assume he went to the bar for meals, but given the chapter’s previous events, can we say he went for lessons? Heyooo

    1. “constantly in “Sir, this is a Wendys” mode” looool. though one thing I can’t say I miss from the Sims 2 is when Sims would immediately wake up if there was so much as a whisper from a TV in the farthest corner of the room
